Chinese New Year Eve

Today is Chinese New Years Eve, and a day b4 our little man is suppose to due. But he is out and about, well not really about as you can see, he has got bad jaundice, so we spend CNY Eve in the wards! As long as he will get will, I don't really mind!

1 Feb, Dad’s birthday/company dinner, so the normal Chinese 10 course meal. Everyone has been joking about me having this little one after the dinner, coz that was what happened with DD, it was after dad’s NZ company dinner, also a 10 course meal, my water broke that morning and was expecting to miss the dinner, but made it thru the dinner (and hairdresser’s appointment and a whole day of last min shopping, with contractions 8-10 mins apart). While finishing dessert, contractions were 1:3. Therefore everyone has been joking about me having this baby on dad’s birthday! We even told out gynae to expect our call. Well, all thru dinner 1:10, so I thought must be BH as I’ve had quite a few of those lately. We have been hoping that this little one would come in Jan, coz Feb would be a busy month, ie, dad’s birthday/company dinner, CNY, Grandmother’s 94th birthday. Didn’t want to be suck in bed, or not being able to eat all those nice food!!! Well… After the dinner we went home and went to bed. Woke up at 1 am to go to the toilet, and gush~ water broke! Off we went to the hospital.

1:30 am - 3cm, (don’t we all just hate those dilation checks, they hurt like hell! Doesn’t help when mine is facing the back as well!) – Bah! 3 cm!!! We had our concern about 3cm, as it was a nightmare with DD, 22hours of 3cm until they induced me!

5:30 am – Still 3cm!! At this point we are staring to panic! Fearing that history would repeat itself again! I haven’t slept a wink, coz contractions where 1:5 all night!( Jake has been sleeping in the bed next to mine, coz he has got a business appointment at 11am, and another at 3 pm. ) At this stage the pain is still bearable!

6am – 1:4. Pain as got worst!!! Woke Jake up, am not going to let him sleep while I go thru this pain!!!

7am – another one of those damn checks!! But good to hear that it’s 5cm now, there I was thinking “great I can get my epidural now!” only to find out that, the aesthetician is in Aceh, the other guy that is available doesn’t have an up to date equipment! Hm….

8am – Doc came in to check on me, first thing he said was “ I really thought you were just joking about coming in today.” We discussed the other options of pain killer, so had a shot of Pethidine and if needed there’s always the gas available.

8:30am – 7 cm, Saline in

8:40am – told the doc I have to push, doc told me to hold on, there was no way that I was going to hold on! When you have to push, you have to push!!! For those ladies that went thru it without epidural, I really have to salute u! There is no way I’m going thru that again without epidural!!! So you can imagine the screams and yells that were coming out of that labor room! All the way thru all I was saying was “I want epidural!” and can we please use vantose to get him out???!!!!

9:18am – at the point in time, I pretty much just wanted it over and done with! I want the Vantose NOW!!! Doc says one last push and he will bring out the vantose!

9:20am – Finally, all 3.3 kg and 54cm of him came out! Jake got to be the first dad to cut the cords here!
Mum came just in time as well to hold the baby. She was thinking she would come and be there for the birth as Jake had to go home to go get ready for the meetings, but once again, she was there just when he came out, like DD, gosh their timing!

3 am - it's nearly been 24 hours without sleep! Midwife asked if we wanted to be induced, becoz it's been nearly 24 hours since water broke, fear of infection.(still 3 cm) NEEDLES and IV!!! I'd do anything to avoid them.
4 am - Gave in! Got the antibiotic, the induction, and the epidural. Thank goodness for epi, Had about 2 hours of rest.
6 am- at this stage epi is wearing off. I swear I felt the head is in between my legs and about 5 cms from popping out. Told the midwife and she say it's too soon after induction, I kept on insisting that she check. And so she did (10 mins later), and IT WAS!! so they topped me up on epi, as i was in great pain and gave me the "happy gas"to hold out till the epi kicks in. (DH was so worried with the way I was sucking the "happy gas" down!)
6:30 am - Started pushing
8:30 am - still pushing. dd had her chin down.(didn't help with the epi, you don't know where you are suppose to push, they even pinched where i was suppose to push, but hm... as if i could feel where they were pinching!)
8:45 am - in came the doctor with the ventose.
8:51 am - just as my parents and dh's parents arrived outside the room door. DD came popping out with a loud cry! Don't remember her crying after that. First question was "Girl or Boy?" Dh cut the cord and she was placed on my tummy, all that went thru my mind was " oh my gosh, she looks so chinese!!"

Thought i would share my story, it's been nearly 2 years now... hm.. let's see if I remember the whole thing. It's going to be long, sorry, all 29 hours of it!
5:30 am (NZ)- Woke up with the need to go to the toilet, b4 i could sit down on the toilet bowl. Gush! Water was running down my legs, being half asleep it took a min for the penny to drop that my water broke. So I yelled out to DH, "I think my water just broke." DH was half asleep and asked if I was sure, I told him I was pretty sure! he jumped out of bed turn all the lights on, there i was sitting in the toilet and and he was walking around like a headless chicken. (Thank Goodness for Antenatal classes). So I took a shower and called our midwife, she told us to get as much rest as possible and she'll come see us in the morning at about 9 am(Rest?!?! hm.. was so excited that I was going to see DD soon, rest? yeah right) Woke mum and dad up, (They came for DD's birth and dad's company's annual dinner, which was on that very nite, have been looking forward to that, DH's parents, they live about 3 hours drive away, and sis was to be there at dinner as well. The usual chinese 10 course meal)
6:45 am - Contractions started, 10 - 13 mins apart.
9 am - Midwife came, checked and I was only 2 cm dilated. (We had opt for a private midwife, becoz I wanted someone we know and that know us in the delivery room.) And guess what? Our midwife is to go on leave at 6 pm that evening! Great!! Midwife said that when the contractions are 3 mins apart, call her and she will meet us at the hospital.
10:30am - (Contractions 8-10 mins apart) Hairdressers, had made the appointment the day b4. (not suppose to be washing your hair everyday during confinement month.So had my hair shorten. Not as if mum nor I followed the whole "pantang", but better some than sorry, so showered every 3rd day, took DD out when she was 2 weeks old to go take photos with Santa.) hairdresser was nervous that i would deliver half way thru. lol.
12noon - (still 8- 10 mins apart) Had lunch, and went shopping for a carseat for DD,(she was 2 weeks early) As most of you would know, No carseat, Not going home with baby!It must have been "let's have a baby" month, 4 hours later, after lots of shops and phone calls, we finally got a rental carseat! Bear in mind we had to stop to breath every 8 - 10 mins! Friends had been calling every hour to ask if we were at the hospital yet! LOL, you should hear their reaction everytime we say no, we're still shopping.
5:30 pm - Last visit from our midwife, she was to go on leave in half an hour!!!!! 3 cm!!!!!!
7:30 pm - Dinner!!! yay!! Set on the same table as the PIL, SIL and some of dad's staff. All looked so worried when we told them that we are in labour! Everyone was really helpful thou, helping time my contractions! lol.
9:30 pm - Dessert! It's amazing how DD times everything! Right after I finished the dessert, 3 mins apart! So we said our goodbyes and went home, called the hospital, took a shower, grab the baby bag and off we go!
12 midnight - Midwife got us to walk around the hospital, thou the contractions where 3 mins apart i was only 3 cm dilated and as I was still smiling!
